I had every intention of writing a blog post about how to change out electrical outlets & light switches. However, after this 'minor project' turned into an entire day's worth of work, which was accompanied by 5 minor (yet painful🥴 ) electrocutions, I decided I wasn't qualified for the job.😂 . That said, all 19 are done! (And so are my finger tips🤪 ). . Here are my takeaways: 1. Assuming that changing out 19 outlets/switches that were poorly put together back in the 80's would be a 'quick project' was mistake #1 . 2. Learn which (unlabeled ) breaker is the A/C because turning everything off in 90 degree heat makes for a very sweaty project. 3. Use the multimeter as it was intended. Guessing if an outlet is ‘live’ isn't nearly as much fun as it sounds. 4. Pour a glass of wine at the BEGINNING of the project. Trust me on this one. 5. It's okay to take a break. In fact, while on break, it's also okay to call an electrician. . For everything else - try YouTube. 🙃 . Swipe ➡️ for the original outlets.
