Is Your Mask IRRITATING You?!! Like it or not, masks are becoming a part of our lives, but they can be hard on your skin, causing problems like acne, dryness, peeling skin, rashes and sensitivity. Here are my top 8 tips to help (check my stories for more! ): 1️⃣ Cleanse your skin morning & night. Dirt, oil and sweat get trapped under your mask, so cleansing twice a day is key to prevent build-up, irritation & clogged pores. 2️⃣ Hydration is KEY and it’s different than keeping it moisturized. A hydrating serum will ADD moisture to your skin rather than just lock in what's already there. And I’ve got a good one! 3️⃣ Apply a moisturizer specifically for your skin type. It can do wonders for your skin -- a gel if you're oily, a lotion for normal or comb skin, a cream for dry to very dry skin. 4️⃣ Skip the makeup. Beneath a mask, makeup can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. If you MUST wear makeup, find one that is oil-free and non-comedogenic. Or better yet, a dermacosmetic that acts like makeup but is good for your skin, like Radiant Defence Perfecting Liquid. 5️⃣ Take mask breaks. Let your face breathe for a least 10-15 minutes every few hours. Ensure you wash or sanitize your hands before and after removing your mask, and do so in a safe environment. 6️⃣ Wash your cloth masks frequently. Ideally, it is recommended that you do this every single day. Washing your mask helps to remove oils, sweat, and skin cells from inside and removes germs, dirt, dust and other particles from the outside. 7️⃣ Dealing with Maskne? Find an acne wash and treatment that will be gentle on your skin but effective on your breakouts. I personally love the Unblemish Acne Wash when pesky pimples start to appear. 8️⃣ Soothe your skin with the OTHER kind of face mask — targeting specific concerns can be a great addition to your routine. Have you guys decided to send your kids to school or not? I am still confused. COVID is here to stay! And I don’t think anyone will feel safe until there is a vaccination for it. Flu season starts in September and goes on. Eesa has asthma, so I am so confused as to what to do? Sending them back to school will eventually happen. Why keep them home for a little bit and then send them back? Homeschooling does not work with us. I have tried it and I can’t do it. And it’s better for them to be at school because they learn much more and they need other kids' contact. Eesa is prone to catch something faster because of his asthma. And it would be so hard if anyone of us were to get sick. I know the school will be taking all health and safety measurements but there is this feeling deep down that makes me want to do remote learning. Another couple reasons are that if anyone of them gets sick we all would have to isolate for fourteen days. Doctors would not see us (even if it’s for a simple ear infection ) they will say talk to public health and public health will say if your symptoms don’t get worse just stay home. And the whole new environment in the school would be traumatic. They would have to wear a mask, just sit on one table, not able to play more freely. Even right now we are not being that cautious because we did take a trip to Niagara, which I am still feeling guilty about. But school is a really hard decision! But there’s also more to life than feeling self-conscious in clothes you think are really cute and worrying about the pool day because of your suit and depriving yourself because you think that’s the only way to see change. What if your life could be more than it is right now? 🌤 For me, MORE meant wearing shorts and a crop top again after Joe mentioned I never wore any of my old clothes anymore. MORE meant having energy to play with Payton and work from home instead of taking a nap. MORE meant realizing I could love my body even after having a baby. I found more in my life with a simple fitness and nutrition plan. I stopped overcomplicating what it meant to take care of myself and found that “more” didn’t really have to be so hard to find. ☀️ If you’re hoping for more in your life, I’d love to help you take the same steps that I did. 7 Days Post Jessner Peel I went light on this Jessner due to the fact I haven’t had one in a while and I frosted after the first application. (Frosting is when parts of your skin turn white during a chemical peel. It happens when the surface of your skin is exfoliated away by the acidic solution. ... For instance, if you have never gotten a chemical peel before or recently and have been using retinoids, your skin may actually frost during a medium-depth peel. ) Dead skin has definitely come off. I felt super dry, but I stayed hydrated with my Simply Spoiled By Danielle Peptide Serum. I plan on doing another 7 day post peel photo as well. Lightening of my dark spots and pigmentation issue areas is visible. I’m happy with the results of this first go round. I will be doing another Jessner in a few weeks. A series of peels is always better than one here and there. Consistency is key. I was always looking for the thing that was going to fix my body- & the quicker the better! What I found is that my body didn’t need fixing. MY MIND is what needed fixing, & all those quick ways never worked for the long term. What quickly came off, quickly went right back on. 5 months postpartum is when I started. I was feeling so uncomfortable in my own skin again, & I was ready to fit back into my clothes. I joined my 1st online health & fitness BOOTCAMP with a Coach (one of my best friends ). I remember telling her that I was afraid I couldn’t do the nutrition thing because I had tried so many things & failed before, but she encouraged me to give it a shot. She said she believed in me & she believed in these workouts & nutrition because they worked for her after having babies. 30 minutes a day plus clean, healthy eating in the right amounts, plus the online Boot Camp & support… lMagic! Thank goodness she convinced me to give it a go… because it was the BEST THING that ever happened to me! I’d tried EVERYTHING before (I swear I’ve tried every diet out there, all different types of exercise, & even clean eating - learned later that I wasn’t eating the right amounts )... So how was this time different? This time I was working on MY MIND at the same time. This time I had a group of supportive, empowering women to teach me that I could change my thoughts about everything things, & when I flipped those things around in my mind, the hard became less hard. Everything became more doable. This time I wasn’t alone. I learned all of this because I was/am part of the community. The mindset shift all thanks to the community & DAILY Mindset Development made all the difference! No amount of exercising my body truly changed me as much as EXERCISING MY MIND daily. It’s what has helped me be able to handle ALL THE CRAZY THINGS that LIFE THROWS AT ME. A pandemic, virtual school & then the tragic loss of my mom. I’ve been told so many times how inspiring & strong I am being throughout it all (I’m humbled by those kind words ). The lesson is to rest not quit... As COVID continues to shift us to new ways of living , being around the kids 24/7 has been one of the most amazing blessings and challenges of this time, at least for me. I mean, sometimes, I’m wondering if I can hire a private teacher to do it all and then other times (especially when she cuddles with me while I’m working ), I am just immensely grateful for all this time with her. 5 months with this girl and she has already learned and grown so much! At 3 and a half months she was rolling over by herself, when she turned 4 months old she was sleeping through the night a minimum of 7 and a half hours, now it’s a minimum of 9 hours🙏🏼 Now she’s saying mama and she’s starting to eat her solid foods. Today was an AMAZING day. Why? Because I spent almost all day in bed, in my comfy pink robe, doing things for myself. I watched Netflix. I drank cups of delicious coffee. I read a book. Ever notice when you fly on an airplane, the flight attendant instructs you to “put your oxygen mask on first,” before helping others? Your number one job, first and foremost, is to take care of your needs first, so you can then help others. This is so true in real life. Some people, especially moms, think they are being selfish or feel guilty if they take care of their needs. As mothers, we think in order to “be a good mom” we have to sacrifice our own well being and put the needs of our children first. I have been a mom for 17 years and I have been guilty of it too. There have been seasons in my life where the busyness of raising children and caring for my family’s needs took priority and I ended up putting myself last. I can tell you those were the days I felt depressed, irritable, drained, frustrated, exhausted, less than patient, and a little resentful. I soon realized self care was essential and necessary, especially if I were going to survive motherhood. For me, that was when my love for fitness was born and taking care of my body physically and mentally became a regular habit. When I practice self care, I am able to be a better and happier mom. So I challenge other mommas out there, take care of yourself! More now than ever, as we are facing unprecedented and difficult times, self care is not a luxury but essential to our health. Take some time this weekend for you, go for a walk, read a book, exercise, connect with a friend, take a nap or whatever makes you feel balanced, happy and fulfilled.
