I made a thing!!! I saw @abbyelyn ‘a @decades_of_style TLC Caftan and had to have one!! It is literally the most comfortable thing ever and it wasn’t hard to make at all! Also, people are telling me that I am #druidchic and also that I look like a loungewear Jedi, which I heartily approve of! I made a video about it, obviously, so that available if you wanna have a watch as well!
Hello from my new front-lacing Regency corded short stays! Say that 10 times fast! I got some advice from my favorite @janeaustenpineapples to sack the long stays for tea and picnics and get some short stays, as they would prove more comfortable! And boy howdy, are they! No busk below the waist makes all the difference! I have a pair of videos up on my channel about them and the making-of. The Laughing Moon regency corded short stays pattern is really a dream to work with and these went together very quickly! They are so very comfortable! ——————————————————————————- #regencystays #regencyshortstays #shortstays #frontlacingstays #regency #regencydaydress #regencydress #regencyfashion #sewing #dressmaking #costumes #costume #costuming #sewingproject #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume

Dreaming of days when we can all play dress up together again. Hopefully that will be in a healthier, mentally-healthier, anti-racist, anti-phobic, un-cheeto’d world. I miss seeing you all in person, but I am so grateful for the lines of communication that we have that has made so many of you into such closer friends during this weird, weird time. 💖💖💖 Sending hugs to you all. We will get by with a little help from our friends.
Just a wee announcement that @morgandonner and I are starting a book club podcast! It’s called @ladieswhogenre and we will be discussing all sorts of genre books! Our first book is “The Witches of New York” and will be available on July 5 on all major podcast distribution venues! Feel free to grab a copy of the book and read up before we get chatting! Follow our Instagram for announcements and reminders! 💖 Also notable: Morgan and I only really read books in audio book format so everything we read will likely be available in this way as well!
Woooo! I did it! I’ve been very slowly working on sizing up and creating my very own #adcapecult cape! I think she’s beautiful! And! She’s reversible! This cape marked a lot of firsts for me: it was the first time I made a pattern from a grid, it was the first time working without seam allowance added, and it was the first time I worked with a non-graded pattern that I had to scale up myself! I learned a LOT on this one, and I’m so proud that she’s vaguely cape shaped! I have a video hopefully coming out later tonight all about how it went down! Oh, hey, in case you forgot black lives matter. 💗 Also, happy pride! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎💖
This. This is how to help keep your activism going forever and ever. Just like any of the other things we do to seek change, we have to normalize this movement into our daily lives. My bonus: you will make new friends and enrich both of your lives through knowing more diverse people! Shout out and love sent to @dames_a_la_mode for stealing her post! 💖 #Repost with @get_repost ・・・ Hopefully you have found some fantastic new accounts to follow this week but now you need to tell the Instagram algorithms that you want to *keep* seeing their content! You are likely only being shown a fraction of the people you follow on a daily basis, so in order to keep your feed diverse you will want to interact with these accounts when you see them. Here are some actions you can take when you see a post in your feed from a Black creator to ensure you'll see more of their posts in the future: Like their posts, comment on their posts, share their posts to your stories, click on their profiles and see if there are any posts you have missed, and of course keep seeking out NEW accounts to follow. BONUS! When you take these actions, Instagram is more likely to show their posts in other people's feeds, which will further amplify them!
Get ready for the marathon, this is not a sprint. We have a LOT of hard work to do in the coming days. #Repost @jamuseum with @get_repost ・・・ JANM STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH BLACK LIVES MATTER The Japanese American National Museum stands with Black communities across the country and we redouble our commitment to opposing racism, prejudice and discrimination in all its forms. We will continue to find ways to contribute to the ongoing dialogue about race and an ethical reckoning with the disparities in our society. As we feel the anguish at the murder of George Floyd and the anger at the systemic racism that permeates our country, it is clear today that none of us can stand back and dispassionately watch as more black people are killed. Japanese Americans are acutely aware of the damaging results of unresponsiveness and indifference from Americans in positions of privilege. During World War II, few people in the U.S. spoke out when the government violated the Constitutional rights of 120,000 individuals of Japanese ancestry by forcibly removing us from our homes and incarcerating us in American concentration camps. At this time, all of us must take on the monumental challenge of overcoming centuries of prejudice and social inequities. It will require courage for every one of us to confront our own bias and indifference. It will require organizations to join the fight and speak out. It will take all of us to fundamentally change our country’s approach to race and inequality. Black Lives Matter. What we do now matters. #blacklivesmatter
It’s not very often that you come face to face with yourself, but @silhouettist allowed me to do just that yesterday! I attended a wonderful party zoom gathering, held by @freshfrippery , and Charles was amazing and magical as he ever is! And now I have this masterpiece which encompasses both sides of my life! Please do reach out to him if you’d like to have a little virtual gathering of your own. He’s very flexible, it’s not expensive at all, and it’s loads of fun to watch him at his craft! Each of them only takes 2 minutes! 10/10 recommended covid-friendly party idea!!
I finished the thing! I present to you my first foré into tailoring! I made the @black_snail_patterns 1890’s vest and I love it! I have the whole process up on YouTube now, including the final finishing video posted last night. I should make a playlist for this one! There’s a link to my channel in my bio! Go have a watch!
I am missing the effervescent company of @ladauphinecostuming today so I thought I’d share another photo from the Sacramento Train Museum that she took of me when times were not so strange. Today has been amazing for me, with the outpouring of love and support from this community in support of getting me to 10k! I adore and appreciate every one of you and am so glad to call you all my friends. Honestly, I don’t even care about the 10k anymore! It’s all about the love here in this community and I am so blessed to be amongst you all. OK, sappy time over, but just know that you all made me ugly cry today and I appreciate that more than you could ever know, especially given our strange circumstances!💖 ——————————————————————————- #victorian #victoriandress #victorianclothes #bustledress #victoriana #bustledress #bustle #ladywatson #sewing #dressmaking #costumes #costume #costuming #sewingproject #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume
The results of our silhouette party yesterday with @silhouettist ! Think you know who is who? Slide and click to find out! Everyone is tagged in the second photo! Want to have a party yourself? Charles is amazing, affordable, and available for zoom parties while we are under lockdown! Please do ping him to organize your own! 💖
We were so inspired by all of the Pass the Brush videos! A group of us got (virtually ) together and filmed a Victorian version which is now up on my IGTV as well as my YouTube! Links in bio! The clips progress chronologically through the Victorian period. Edited by @thevictorianarchivist , myself, and @mk .beutymhill, featuring in order: @totchipanda @miss_smee @couturecourtesan @ninonella @ladyrebeccafashions @beauty_and_the_bustle @dressed_in_time @thevictorianarchivist @mk .beutymhill @aladyofquality @costuming_drama @thevictorianromanian @cecikierk What a fun thing to do during this weird weird time!
I was all dolled up today for a little sneaky project, so I thought I would attempt to take some pictures of myself in costume. It’s way harder than it looks! Props to people who do this all the time! I have like 3 pics that I like out of maybe 300, but hey, I still got 3! And now I know how to do this for the future! Woo woo! ——————————————————————————- #ladywatson #victorian #victoriandress #victorianclothes #bustledress #victoriana #sewing #dressmaking #costumes #costume #costuming #sewingproject #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume
Today I took an online workshop with @aaronsandershead to learn some simple Sashiko designs and improve my texture game with regard to textiles. I had fallen in love with this star pattern, which really is very simple, and had a lot of fun today learning how this stitching/embroidery system works. I’m thinking the stars would look awesome on some sort of cloak for a Hogwarts related costume and @hdotsew brought up what a great texture the tortoise shells would be for my Victorian Yoshi! Aaron is an awesome and patient teacher, and the class was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! I would highly recommend it! He teaches all kinds of fiber arts including quilting and dying. Go check out his work!

Representing my girls over at @americanduchess in this shot. I love these Tavistocks. They are so comfortable! And coming from someone who hates heels, that’s saying something! Keepin’ my spirits up today! So far I’ve spent the day feeling accomplished for tackling a small chunk of garage re-org, and I’m about to go try and tape a print-at-home pattern together for the first time! Wish me luck! Guess what I finally finished! This bonnet had become the running joke of my YouTube channel... I kept saying I was gonna work on it and then failed to do that for like... months. Anyway, it’s all done now and I’m super happy with it! And there’s a YouTube video where you can watch me suffer through remaking almost every part of this! Woo woo!
